Morgan County, IN- The MSD of Martinsville welcomes Mr. Stephen (Craig) Buckler as new assistant superintendent of schools. The vote to confirm Mr. Buckler was held on June 20, 2019, at the monthly Board of School Trustees’ meeting. He will start his role on July 1, 2019.
“Mr. Buckler comes to the MSD of Martinsville with significant curriculum and instruction background paired with a general desire for students and staff to achieve at their highest abilities,” stated Dr. Jay Arthur, superintendent, MSD of Martinsville. “His collaborative approach to problem solving and personable style will pair well with my goals to operate transparently and with academic richness. I’m excited to have Craig on the team. I am confident he will serve our community well.”
Mr. Buckler began his educational journey at Ball State University and graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education. In 2004, he received a master’s degree in educational leadership and his principal’s license from Indiana University. He became a member of the Indiana Principal Leadership Institute (IPLI) in 2016 which led him to pursue his superintendent’s licensure. He completed his educational specialist degree (Ed.S.) from Indiana State University in May 2018.
Soon after receiving his elementary education diploma, Mr. Buckler began his career at Break-O-Day Elementary School in New Whiteland, Indiana, where he spent five years teaching second and third grade. In the fall of 2001, he joined Beech Grove City Schools as a looping teacher for students in special services (special education) and English Language Learners (ELL) programs at Central Elementary. Mr. Buckler was selected as principal in 2008 where he has held the position for 11 years.
Mr. Buckler resides in Franklin with his daughter, Charlotte, and their dogs and cats. He enjoys walking their dogs, reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family!
