Morgan County, IN – The MSD of Martinsville is pleased to announce that Martinsville High School was selected as one of only 17 out of 410 high schools in Indiana as the 2018 – 2019 recipient of the Indiana High School Athletic Association’s (IHSAA) Sportsmanship Award.
The award recognizes schools for their efforts in fostering good sportsmanship, citizenship, and character within their students, patrons, and community. The award is presented annually to Indiana high schools that meet or exceed sportsmanship criteria supplied by the IHSAA.
“We are very honored to receive this award. With over 500 athletic events yearly, 300 student-athletes, 60 coaches, and thousands of fans, it is quite an accomplishment for our school community,” said Kip Staggs, athletic director, Martinsville High School. ” We work diligently with preseason coaches meeting, team meetings, parents meeting and regular game day announcements to encourage good sportsmanship, community service, and solid character. To be one of 17 schools to win this award is humbling and for us to win it for the second year in a row, is second to none. It takes a lot of people, doing the right thing, on a daily basis, to make this possible. This is not only a school award but a community award.”
This is the second year in a row that the IHSAA has awarded the Sportsmanship Award to Martinsville High School.
