On November 15th, surprised with presents, a pizza party, RTV 6 and Andrew Crowley of The Reporter, students of Mrs. Davis’ first-grade class at Brooklyn STEM Academy were all smiles. They had just learned that they were selected as one of only 22 classrooms in the nation to be recipients of the Adopt-A-Class program from J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. and would receive $500 worth of school supplies. The nomination came from Mr. Tony Lawson, a driver for J. B. Hunt Transport and grandfather to a student in class.
Mr. Lawson expressed the importance of the nomination stating “grade school is the most important part of a child’s development. Teachers in the third, fourth, and fifth grades helped me and turned my life around.”
J.B. Hunt Transport partners with the Adopt-A-Class organization and asked drivers to nominate their children’s or grandchildren’s classrooms. Once it was determined that Mrs. Davis’ class would receive the school supplies, she was able to choose which items would benefit her students.
Along with his colleagues, Thomas Cosby and Scott Dorsey, Mr. Lawson handed out school supplies individually wrapped for each child to open, then delighted the students with stories about what his company does and the ‘cool’ truck he gets to drive.
A very special thank you to Mr. Lawson and J.B. Hunt Transport for their generosity to our students and teachers.
