Senior Banner Incident Update

The Metropolitan School District of Martinsville has accepted responsibility for senior banners displayed that may have been the cause of unintended consequences.  Administration and staff will continue to be diligent and take precautions in the future to ensure student, staff and visitor safety along with a positive learning environment for all.  During the week of September 13, 2021, the district has implemented the following actions and measures to eliminate negative perceptions on social media and with the public in general.

  • Communicated with staff and students via email and voicemail.

  • Made special announcements at school with purposeful messages.

  • Collaborated with multiple agencies and stakeholders (City of Martinsville, Mayor of Martinsville, Martinsville Police Department, Martinsville Fire Department, Reporter-Times, WCBK, Porch Time).

  • Provided additional police presence on and off of campus.

  • Contacted not only local media, but also Indianapolis media.

  • Removed senior banners in question.

  • Responded to parent and community concerns.

  • Communicated with other schools that Martinsville competes.

  • Participated with the WISHTV.com8 Podcast.  See below.

  • PODCAST: Message from Coach Dugger on the Tevin Studdard Show
